Idyllwild Cycling - Spring Challenge 2008
THE IDYLLWILD SPRING CHALLENGE! Has been met for 2008. Congratulations to all the riders and volunteers who make it all possible. This year was a 4th running of the event. Stayed tuned for the Spring Challenge 2009!
2008 Cross Country Results
THE IDYLLWILD SPRING CHALLENGE WELCOMES THE 2008 USA CYCLING JUNIOR OLYMPIANS!
The Idyllwild Spring Challenge has gained the reputation of being one of the most fun and challenging races in southern California. The Cross Country course is something you'll never forget and is the pride of the race itself. Using the one lap format, this epic ride is over 90% single track with a wide variety of terrain that wanders through the San Jacinto Mountains near the mile high community of Idyllwild. Five different laps ranging from 7 to 30 miles offer something for every level of rider.
Once again, Pros can expect our healthy cash purse and the KOM primes; something that makes the Idyllwild Spring Challenge uniquely different. See web site for cash award breakdowns. In addition, winning Experts will walk away with $50.00 each!
After the Cross Country race we'll be holding our amazing raffle that includes an Ellsworth frame, a Giant Anthem frame, a set of Spinergy Xyclone 29ers and more!
We invite racers to come stay the weekend and try out our new Super D on Sunday. Our Super D course is what a classical Super D should be with the majority of the course being downhill and a little climbing thrown in here and there. It's 5.5 miles of pure fun!
After the Super D the Idyllwild spring Challenge heads closer to town for our second annual Time Trial. This is a course we believe is a true Time Trial course. It climbs, dives and twists all in a short four miles. An absolute blast! All Time Trial winners will receive a free lunch certificate to our favorite Mexican restaurant, La Casita; it's the perfect way to end a great weekend. Registration is limited to 70 riders only so sign up early! There is no entry fee for the Time Trial; only donations will be accepted. All contributions will go towards maintaining local trails for future use.
Idyllwild Cycling would like to thank all of the groups and volunteers that make this race possible.
Mile High Radio Club
This fantastic group of amateur radio operators has been with the Idyllwild Spring Challenge from the beginning. They provide the valuable communications network from several stations positioned over the entire racecourse.

LASAR Search and Rescue
You may have seen this talented group of medical professionals at the local 24 Hrs of Adrenalin races held at Hurkey Creek Park. They also provide their valuable services for the Idyllwild Spring Challenge, both on and off the course. If you see a rider with a red cross on their number plate you can count on immediate attention if need be. Any other medical emergencies can be attended to at the first aid tent in the expo area.
La Casita Mexican Restaurant
The Time Trial is named after this fabulous restaurant for its donation of meal certificates to every winning rider. Its one of our favorite places to eat in town and winning one of these free certificates is the perfect ending to a great weekend!
Hoetger Enterprises
Those of you who have attended the race in the past know about the awesome granite plaques given out at the Cross Country awards ceremony. Each one is unique and the Pros can expect to use both hands to hold their oversized awards up! The Super D and Time Trial will display Ralph's laser cut wood medals. Thank you Ralph for your hard work and time!
Dore's Mountain Metal Sculpture Garden and Studio
The Idyllwild Spring Challenge has probably one of the most imaginative, unique and special KOM mountain bike awards around. Dore Capitani is a local artist who donated the KOM for the 2007 race. Each piece was cut from steel and carefully aged to create a stunning piece of art that could be proudly displayed on any wall.
Dore's gallery is located south of Idyllwild on Highway 243. It is well worth the time to stop and look at his collection of steel art.

Everitt's Minerals and Gallery
The folks at Everitt's donated some very special awards for our Mother's Day parade for the 2007 race. Each award was a different stone pendant that was given to every mother that road in our parade lap around the expo area. A very special treat.

And last but not least, all of the volunteers that make up a small army during this event. Without them, the Idyllwild Spring Challenge would not be the race it has become. Every single one has shown great spirit and dedication to this race.
